Local Intel: Berlin Art Galleries

I haven’t been to Berlin since the Wall came down, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how much and how little the city has changed. On one hand, the line between east and west has been blurred, and to an unsuspecting tourist it may seem like there never was a wall separating the two parts. On the other hand, unlike most eastern European cities that have undergone tremendous political trasformations in the past decades, Berlin is still Berlin.

Today, the most notable cultural phenomenon is the city’s growing art scene. Though the old museums are still there, and definitely worth a visit, the city is teeming with new galleries just waiting to be explored. Though I visited in February 2012, and by now some of these exhibits may have passed, the list below will give you an idea about how important the modern and contemporary art scene is in Berlin.

The galleries are easily accessible via the U-Bahn, and a pleasant stroll through the scenic neighborhoods. One exhibit not to be missed is the Dali Exhibit, conveniently located on Potsdammer Platz. Though only temporary, the last time I checked, it was still in progress.
